How SIAscans Help Visualise Blood, Collagen and Pigment in the Skin
Modern skin analysis can use advanced imaging technology to examine features beneath the visible surface of the skin. SIAscopy™ is a fast, non-invasive method that produces colour bitmaps known as SIAscans™. These images show the relative location of blood, collagen, and pigment, providing medical professionals with additional information when examining skin lesions. What Are SIAscans? SIAscans are colour images produced by the SIAscope™ handheld scanner. They are created by analysing how light interacts with different structures within the skin. The technology considers how light is reflected and scattered, how much is absorbed by cells and other structures, and how wavelengths and colours change as light interacts with the skin. How SIAscopy Examines the Skin When the SIAscope illuminates the skin, some light is reflected or scattered from the surface, while the remainder travels into the upper layers of the skin. Different amounts of this incoming light are absorbed by structur...
